Order of Canada for Paul Albrechtsen

On June 30, Governor General David Johnston announced that Paul Albrechtsen has been named
a Member of the Order of Canada “for his leadership as an entrepreneur in the transportation industry and for his dedication to the wellbeing of his community, notably in support of health care.”

Albrechtsen, an immigrant from Denmark, started Paul’s Hauling in 1956. It is currently one of the nation’s leading carriers with over 275 employees.

Albrechtsen’s philanthropy has been legendary. In 2016, he donated $4 million to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation for the creation of a new Alzheimer Centre of Excellence. In 2015, his foundation donated $5 million towards cardiac research at the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre. The foundation also supports the Reh-Fit Center, St. Paul’s High School, Assiniboine Park Conservancy, and the Health Sciences Center. This honour comes a year after Albrechtsen was named to the Order
of Manitoba.

New motor carrier resource
Motor Carrier Division (Manitoba Infrastructure) would like to advise of a new resource that is available for motor carriers and operators of regulated vehicles in Manitoba. A Guide to Transportation Safety provides an overview of the legislative and regulatory requirements of motor carriers/operators of regulated vehicles in Manitoba. It replaces the outdated Commercial Operators Regulatory Education (CORE) program manual.

A Guide to Transportation Safety contains nine sections and several appendices, including several forms that can be printed by users that will help in understanding regulatory requirements.

The guide will not be printed in hard copy. The complete guide can be downloaded in PDF format,
as well as individual sections and appendices on the following website http://www.gov.mb.ca/mit/mcd/mcs/safetyguide.html.

Users are encouraged to use a computer or mobile device to view the document and print, as needed. (Due to the large file size of the complete guide, it has not been attached but can be downloaded by visiting the website.)

Motor Carrier Division will be making regular updates to the manual as requirements change. Users can sign up on the website to be notified (by email) when a new version of the guide is available.
