The STA staff met with the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Career Training and the Assistant Deputy Minister of Training and Employer
Services to discuss ways the STA and government can collaborate to address the expanding truck driver shortage. While increased training, education or immigration alone are not a solution, the shortage of qualified truck driver in Saskatchewan and Canada needs a multi-pronged approach to be addressed in both the short- and the long-term. The STA will continue to work with multiple government groups to ensure that the truck driver shortage is top of mind – our economy depends on it.
The STA has also been in discussions with TruckingHR Canada about working collaboratively to provide education sessions in Saskatchewan to employers, providing guidance on recruitment and retention.
