Minister of Transport announce Transport Canada’s support on Electronic Logging Device (ELD)

Shaw Tracking had the opportunity to participate in the roundtable hosted by the Canadian Trucking Alliance on March 19th, where the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, announced Transport Canada’s support on electronic logging devices (ELDs) and electronic stability control systems (ESC) to improve road safety.

As carriers begin contemplating the move to ELD, they should begin assessing technology solutions that are already compliant with the Ministry of Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and the latest rules and regulations of Transport Canada.

Shaw Tracking currently supports over 700 customers with 50,000 ELD compatible units in the field. By activating HOS, our ELDs ensure detailed drivers’ logs are fully compliant. In addition to compliance, many forward-thinking carriers that have already made the transition to ELD and are seeing the additional benefits of the technology including improved fleet productivity, safety, CSA scores and the ability to lower operating costs.

Shaw Tracking customers that have adopted the ELD have seen positive results. Drivers find that they have gained driving time from 30 minutes to 2 hours per week as their paperwork is eliminated. Fleets are saving money by removing log books, auditing costs, administrative duties through automation. Dispatchers are becoming better planners for drivers, for example dispatchers send a driver to the shipper the night before so their waiting time can be done off duty. Dispatchers are also avoiding sending drivers who do not have adequate hours to deliver on time, and are overall making better use of their teams. The results are deliveries as scheduled, and fleets driving safely and compliant.
