The MTA Fall Awards Gala celebrates its dedicated members through the pandemic and beyond

Members of the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) gathered on November 19 for the first in-person fall awards gala since 2019.The event, held at The Met in Winnipeg, was an opportunity to honour industry members.

“Our industry members have given their all over the past couple of years. The 2021 MTA Fall Awards Gala is an extra-special evening for our members to take some time to pause, reflect, and celebrate how much we have achieved during the global pandemic and supply chain issues we are facing,” said MTA President Bernie Driedger. “Those honoured tonight are leaders who make our industry better for what they bring to it every day.”

 Awards presented over the course of the evening included:

• MTA-Red Coleman Service to Industry Award: Garth Pitzel (Bison Transport Inc.)

• MTA-Omnitracs Distinguished Member: Tétrault Transport

• MTA-Ocean Trailer Pioneer Club Members: Dave Fulawka (Bison Transport Inc.)

• MTA-Payne Transportation Ltd. Associate of the Year: Jim Devlin (Bridgestone Canada)

• MTA-Bridgestone Trucking Hero Award: Navdeep Singh, CN Transportation Ltd.

• MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada – Manitoba Driver of the Year: Roy Dillon (TransX Group of Companies)

Also recognized at the event were the MTA-Inland Industry Excellence Award winners (previously announced during National Trucking Week), including:

• Allen Blair (Trapper’s Transport)

• Ernest Barkhouse (Arnold Bros. Transport Ltd.)

• Roy Dillon (TransX Group of Companies)

• Stephen Frampton (Searcy Trucking Ltd.)

• Ben Pinel (TransX Group of Companies)

• Jaswinder Sandhu (Bison Transport Inc.)

• Navdeep Singh (CN Transportation Ltd.)

• Kirk Szecsodi (Len Dubois Trucking Inc.)

• Navdeep Singh (CN Transportation Ltd.)

• Raymond Tiessen (Searcy Trucking Ltd.)

• Charles Vos (Bison Transport Inc.)

In his greetings to members of the Manitoba Trucking Association, MTA President Bernie Driedger pointed out that through depression, war, natural disasters, recessions, booms and busts, members of the association have worked together to overcome their challenges. He also thanked commercial drivers for their efforts at all times, and especially over the last eighteen months, to keep the supply chain moving. Also thanked were industry members and their families for the hard work required during the COVID-19 pandemic. Driedger ended his speech by pointing out that while the industry has great challenges ahead of it, the industry has overcome great challenges before, and that by working together, the industry will persevere.
