Western Canada Highway News is pleased to introduce you to Kerri Lynn, Owner/President of Hawk Logistics: an asset-based logistics provider that specializes in cross border/flat step transportation solutions in Saskatoon, SK.

In our interview together, Kerri shares how Hawk Logistics serves and supports Saskatchewan’s transportation industry with its core values and connection with
the community.

Susan Ewart, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA), says that it’s an absolute privilege to have Kerri on the STA Board of Directors. “[Kerri] is thoughtful in all of her questions and responses in her role as a member of the Board. She volunteers her time tirelessly for the benefit of the industry. Kerri and her team at Hawk Logistics have been engaged and present members of the Association and we are proud to have them on board. I look forward to working with Kerri for many years.”

On behalf of the readership, the team at STA, Hawk Logistics, and Western Canada Highway News, please welcome Kerri Lynn.

Tell us a bit about yourself – how long have you been a part of the industry and working for Hawk Logistics?

I have been in the trucking industry for over 25 years. I started my career as a night biller, working evenings and going to school during the day. I then left the industry and joined the world of accounting for a few years but found my way back to trucking. In 2019, I had an opportunity to be a part of a new venture and started Hawk Logistics.

Describe your team at Hawk Logistics.

Our team at Hawk can be described as transparent, intelligent, experienced, competitive, adaptable, and professional. All of these qualities contribute to our company core values and we are very proud of all owner operators and support staff that helped create and maintain this environment.

With COVID-19, how has Hawk Logistics 1) made safety a priority within the company and 2) adapted to meet the evolving needs for the industry?

With or without COVID, safety is always a priority at Hawk Logistics Ltd. Over the past couple of years, we’ve added some additional safety measures in order to keep our drivers and staff safe.

This industry is constantly changing – from policies and regulations to safety and compliance – so there is never a dull moment. To stay on top of everything is a full-time job and thankfully there are organizations, including the STA, that assist in providing information to help make things easier.

Safety is a priority with Hawk and we are currently in the process of obtaining the following certifications: COR, C-TPAT, CSA- and PIP-approved.

Talk about your involvement with the STA.

I have been on the STA Board of Directors for the past two years and have just renewed my term for another two. During my time with the STA, I have been a part of numerous committees and my most recent role is the Co-Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee. Being a part of the STA has been such an educational experience and would like thank their team for their continued support.

What have been some career satisfactions and challenges?

My number one career satisfaction is being given the opportunity to start Hawk Logistics Ltd., and the most challenging thing was having to deal with a new trucking company in a pandemic. Who would have thought? Somethings in life are planned and somethings are out of your control. I have to say that we have been very fortunate during COVID and despite the tough times amongst other industries trucking has stayed relatively strong. The service that our drivers have and continue to provide.

What do you enjoy most about working in the transportation industry?

I enjoy the fact that there are never two days that are ever the same, every day is a challenge and never a dull moment. The team environment that we have created at Hawk makes going to work an enjoyable experience and being part of such a vital and important industry makes it all worthwhile.

What advice do you have for someone considering a career in the industry?

There are so many positions in the industry and the opportunities are endless, the challenges you will encounter and the experiences you will gain are greater than any other industry that I have been involved in.

How do you enjoy spending time outside of work? I love spending time with friends and family. I have been a fitness instructor for over 15 years and still teach weekly. I enjoy spending my summers at the cabin, golfing, paddle boarding, boating, and fishing – anything that can take me outdoors.
