The McIntoshes are no strangers to the trucking industry, with the next generation having grown up in the industry. “Our father, Jim McIntosh, has been a professional driver for more than 40 years. Growing up, our friends spent their weekends riding bikes or going to the mall, and we spent our weekends at our father’s shop. We loved it! There was always something exciting happening at the shop,” says Corinne Dovell, daughter of Jim and Office Manager at JMAC Trucking Inc. “Our parents started JMAC Trucking over ten years ago. My brother Shawn started with the company right away and looks after our fleet logistics and equipment, I started working for JMAC Trucking three years ago, and I take care of the ‘office’ end of things, and my brother James started at the beginning of this year as the Logistics Director.”

If they had to pick one word to represent their company, it would, of course, be “family.” The family-owned and operated business has made it clear that everyone who is a part of the JMAC Trucking team, whether it be office staff or owner/operators, is very much a part of the JMAC family. “Many of our team members have been a part of JMAC Trucking for years now. Our team is a huge part of our success – they are professional, dedicated, and go the extra mile for our clients while making safety a priority,” states Corinne.

As with many other sectors, the trucking industry faced hardships when it came to COVID-19. JMAC Trucking has made safety a top priority through the pandemic and onwards. “Safety regulations are a very important component of trucking, and we feel safety is always a priority. One of our main goals this year is to enhance our safety program. We have already started to investigate the courses the STA has to offer. We hope to obtain our Certificate of Recognition (CoR) this year,” says Corinne, who also elaborates on their relationship with the STA. “We joined the STA at the beginning of this year. The STA team themselves have been wonderful and incredibly supportive, and knowledgeable. We are excited to be able to take advantage of all the STA has to offer. We plan on seeing a lot more of the STA team in the upcoming months.”

While owning a company is no easy feat, they know that with all of the challenges their company faces in the industry, they lead to many career successes and satisfactions. One of the career satisfactions is having a strong foundation due to the professionalism of all the team members and their incredible knowledge. “Our parents, our office team members, and many of our owner/operators have been in the industry for many years. They have such a wealth of knowledge, and it is so nice to be able to call one of them up for guidance and advice,” Corinne says. She also credits the company’s success to the team’s tremendous support, stating, “It makes navigating the industry a little less scary.”

But with success still comes challenges. A significant challenge they are currently facing is integrating new practices and principles into an already established company. “Integrating the old with the new,” as she puts it. Another challenge is one that is facing the entire trucking industry – the truck driver shortage. She explains, “We are trying to figure out how we can play a part in getting the younger generations to consider the trucking industry as a career choice. We are also thinking of new ideas and strategies to attract owner/operators that fit well within our team and share the same passion about trucking as we do.” As for advice for someone considering a career in the industry? “There is so much potential in the trucking industry right now. It is a fun industry, and it is very rewarding. Trucking is an extremely important component of our everyday lives, and we know we improve people’s lives.”

When asked what the JMAC Trucking family enjoyed the most about working in the transportation industry, her answer was simple and immediate. “Hands down, the people!” Corinne exclaimed. “Whether it is our own team, our clients, or others in the industry, we light up when we can talk about trucking. It may seem weird, but we love the fact that not every day is the same –
every day, there is something new, constant learning, and opportunities to overcome challenges.

When not running a successful company, they can be found spending time with family and friends. They love camping and everything that comes along with being at
the lake. Corinne also says, “We all have young children involved in extracurricular activities, so you will find us at baseball diamonds, soccer fields, dance studios, and hockey rinks most evenings and weekends.”
