Saskatchewan Trucking Association
It was that time of year again to come together and celebrate the trucking industry at the Saskatchewan Trucking Association’s (STA) Annual AGM, Gala and Awards Banquet.
This year’s event attracted a fantastic turnout of members, all eager to enjoy an evening filled with networking opportunities, camaraderie, and the recognition of outstanding individuals within our industry.
The AGM was well attended, marking a significant transition within the Association as experienced individuals stepped aside to make way for new members. This infusion of fresh ideas and energy is vital for the future of trucking in Saskatchewan. We appreciate everyone who participated and look forward to the new perspectives that will emerge from this year’s elected representatives. A heartfelt thank you goes out to those who have served and are now passing the torch.
One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the National Driver of the Year Award to a remarkable Saskatchewan driver, Kirt McDougall. This accolade not only signifies individual excellence but also reflects the pride that our provincial commercial drivers take in their profession. It was a proud moment for us as an Association to help promote this positive image of the trucking industry, showcasing the dedication and professionalism that our drivers embody daily.
We also took a moment to honour our Provincial Driver of the Year, Russell Morris. He is a veteran in the industry with countless miles and years of experience. Despite his extensive achievements, he remains a humble individual, deeply committed to his craft. His dedication to the trucking profession is inspiring and truly deserving of the recognition he received. It was a heartwarming reminder of the values that drive our industry forward, including hard work, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Additionally, we celebrated an equally important figure in our industry: the 2024 Dispatcher of the Year, Jessica Reid. Jessica is a cornerstone of her company, demonstrating not just operational excellence but also a commitment to fostering inclusivity within the industry. Her efforts to engage with underrepresented groups are commendable and reflect the kind of leadership that is crucial for the growth and evolution of our field. She is truly a deserving recipient of this prestigious award, exemplifying the spirit of collaboration and support essential in trucking.
The evening also featured the Service to Industry Award, presented to Reg Quiring, a man whose contributions to the trucking sector are immeasurable. His grassroots approach to business and unwavering connection to front-line employees have propelled his company to impressive heights. Moreover, his commitment to sharing the success he has built with others in need is a testament to his character and values. This small award hardly does justice to the remarkable impact he has had through his generosity and leadership.
This year’s Gala embraced a fun, spooky theme that added an element of excitement to the evening. The event was expertly coordinated by a talented emcee, Rob Ruiters, and we were treated to vibrant local ethnic entertainment that showcased the rich diversity within our community.
We would also like to acknowledge the venue and the exceptional staff who took care of us throughout the evening, ensuring that our experience was enjoyable and memorable. The delicious meal served added to the overall warmth and joy of the event.
As we reflect on this year’s AGM, Gala and Awards Banquet, we are already looking forward to next year’s festivities. We encourage everyone to keep an eye out for our upcoming events and to mark your calendars for 2025. It promises to be another wonderful opportunity to celebrate our industry and connect with fellow members. Until we meet again, thank you for being part of this vibrant community.
