Trucking HR Canada launched Career ExpressWay – an initiative designed to help trucking and logistics employers better attract and recruit young people into driving, and non-driving occupations.

The initiative, funded through the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy is designed to connect young people to stable, well paying jobs in an essential sector

“As the Canadian economy looks to rebound from COVID‑19, we need to ensure we have skilled workers supporting the continued flow of goods through Canada’s supply chain,” says Angela Splinter, CEO of Trucking HR Canada. “This government investment in supporting training and wage subsidies is certainly a good start in helping connect young people to stable, meaningful, and essential jobs that pay well.”

The program offers driver training subsidies of up to $10,000 per student, and wage subsidies of up to $15,000. Working with tight timelines, the program is giving priority to Top Fleet Employers. All interested employers (including industry suppliers) are, however, encouraged to complete a Career ExpressWay program application.

Recent Trucking HR Canada research shows that as the Canadian economy rebounds from COVID-19, the issues plaguing shortages pre-COVID will resurface, namely the need to attract young people. This builds on previous youth research conducted in 2018 which highlighted that we are losing potential young workers to construction, and other sectors due to the high training costs and lack of financing and support for this training. As an essential service, truck transportation and logistics offers many viable and stable career opportunities for young people.
